Democrats Should Lead the Way Toward a Green Future

Thank you to the Netroots community. My campaign to bring a new beginning to South Florida (FL-18: South Beach, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and the Florida Keys) has been endorsed by the Orange to Blue program that is working to elect more - and better - Democrats across the country.

Todd at MyDD wrote a great piece about my time at Netroots Nation. I have been endorsed by AMERICAblog,  Blue America and right now, we are number one on ActBlue!

Yup, we are on a roll and none of this would be possible without YOU!

New Beginning

After seven and a half years of failed policies, we are in a recession, health care costs are rising, and we are in a war that is costing us hundreds of millions of dollars a day. America needs a new beginning. We need greater investment in renewable energy, an end to subsidies for the big oil companies, and access to affordable health care for all Americans. I will put the needs of middle-class families first for a change.

Energy Crisis

Gas prices are through the roof, and families are hurting. Our country is undergoing an energy crisis, with gas prices climbing over $4 a gallon and skyrocketing utility costs.  It is time to stop the tax subsidies to big oil and invest that money in renewable energy.  It is time for real measures to lower gas prices and prevent price-gouging at the pump.  In Congress, I will fight for a real investment in alternative energy sources that will save us money, bring new jobs to our region, improve the environment, and create energy independence.

Ros-Lehtinen has taken $70,000 from the Oil and Gas Industries

My opponent in this November's election, however, Bush Rubberstamp Ileana Ros-Lehtinen took $70,000 from the oil and gas industries and then voted against new incentives for clean, renewable energy.

She voted against reducing tax breaks for Big Oil and Gas, and she voted against investing in green energy projects. She also votes consistently against setting goals and benchmarks to reduce harmful carbon emissions.

Rubberstamp Ros-Lehtinen Ros-Lehtinen supports drilling into some of our most fragile ecosystems. She votes to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other sensitive areas, and just last year, she voted to seriously weaken the Clean Air Act.

South Florida Needs to Turn Blue to Go Green

Please help me to victory this November by contributing through one of the ActBlue pages that our friends in the community have graciously added us to.

Thank you again, and I welcome any and all questions and comments,

Annette Taddeo

Re: Blue and Green Go Together! (2.00 / 1)

Welcome. I guess I'll start things off... There has been some evidence of shifts within the South Florida Cuban community. What can be done there to ensure those shifts are realized this fall and beyond?

Ros-Lehtinen will be one of the Deputy Permanent Co-Chairs at the GOP Convention. Tough to try and repudiate the party's failures and hold that post at the same time.

Re: Blue and Green Go Together! (2.00 / 1)

Ros-Lehtinen is a Bush-Rubberstamp trying to pass herself off as a moderate this year.

With your help, we are not letting her hide from her far-right wing record.

Re: Blue and Green Go Together! (2.00 / 1)

Thanks, Jonathan, and it was great meeting you in Austin.

A huge issue this year are the travel restrictions that Ros-Lehtinen was instrumental in getting implemented in 2004.

The restrictions made it so that Cuban-Americans can visit their families on the island only once every three years, down from once a year.

Because of this, even children and grandchildren can often not visit their sick or dying relatives.  The policy offends my family values, and it is turning Cuban support away from Ros-Lehtinen and the Republicans.

Good Luck! (2.00 / 1)

I'm from Miramar and was/am thrilled to contribute to your campaign. What are your thoughts about Kendrick Meek's association with Mario Diaz Balart?

Thanks for stopping by... (none / 0)

I LOVE seeing candidates come to MyDD to talk with us. I just hope more in the community remember the importance of Congressional races like yours. As I tell my friends here & elsewhere, President Obama won't be enough! He'll need more & better Democrats in Congress to make change happen. ;-)

So anyways, now to my question. How are you fighting back against allegations that Democrats "do nothing" because we refuse to allow irresponsible oil drilling off our coast while 68 million acres of federal land already slated for drilling aren't touched by the oil comapnies?

I'd like to see how you're framing the whole drilling issue in South Florida. And btw, I'm also always looking for good candidates...

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)
